Title IV Refunds Explained

I didn't ask for a refund. Why am I getting one?

Every year we are required by federal law to refund any unused Title IV monies to the borrower. Title IV funds cannot be used to cover expenses for a different aid year. For example, you will not be able to use 2024-25 Title IV funds to cover expenses for the 2025-26 school year. We monitor Title IV throughout the year. After add/drop each semester, reports are run. If you did not enroll or you registered with an old balance, a Title IV refund may be on it's way to you. Our final concerted effort is in June before Registration Central opens in July for the new aid year. If you have a refund profile on file in TouchNet, your Title IV money will be delivered by direct deposit; otherwise a check will be mailed to your local address.

What are Title IV funds?

Title IV funds include Subsidized and Unsubsidized student loans, Grad PLUS loans, Parent PLUS loans, FSEOG, and federal Pell grants.

But now I owe 老司机传媒 money.* How can that be?

Over the course of each term, there may be some items charged to your AU student account that the federal government does not consider essential educational expenses coverable by Title IV funds. These items may include:

  • balances from a previous aid year
  • library fines
  • parking citations
  • lab printing charges
  • club dues
  • chapel/assembly fines.

*You probably won't owe any money. If you do, you will need to pay your account to avoid interest charges or registration holds. Account payments can be made in the form of cash, personal/bank check, ACH, or credit card. Your financial advisor will be able to help you understand your account.

Is there anyway I can avoid this situation in the future?

Yes, there is. When your aid posts for the semester, request your full credit balance. Do not leave funds on your account. If you find that you are not needing these funds you may want to reduce the amount of loans borrowed. Contact your financial advisor to arrange a return. Also, be sure that your account is current and that you're not registering with a balance owing.

Every semester when you financially clear, you may elect to have Andrews pay these charges on your behalf using your Title IV monies. You will see two authorizations:

Authorization #1

Accept or decline the following: I give authorization for my Title IV Aid, after current term institutional costs are covered, to pay non-institutional charges such as living expenses and other miscellaneous charges while attending 老司机传媒. Selecting to decline this option will in no way affect financial clearance. You may, at any time, cancel or modify this authorization by emailing sfs@andrews.edu.

Authorization #2

Accept or decline the following: I give authorization to 老司机传媒 to hold my Title IV credit balance on my education account to cover previous balances less than $200 or future charges within the current aid year. Selecting to decline this option will in no way affect financial clearance. You may, at any time, cancel or modify this authorization by emailing sfs@andrews.edu
