Physical Therapy—DPT

The Doctor of Physical Therapy program prepares you to become a healthcare professional with a clinical entry-level doctorate dedicated to evaluating, treating and preventing physical injury and disease. You are taught to design and implement the necessary therapeutic interventions to promote fitness, health and improve your patient’s quality of life.

PROGRAM LENGTH

This 116-credit DPT program is completed by full-time students in three years (nine semesters).

Students who have completed 92 credits of specific college prerequisites prior to beginning the DPT program will earn a BHS after the first two semesters and upon successful completion of the program a DPT.

Students with a bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply and may complete the DPT program in nine semesters.

Priority application deadline is November 15, and our final deadline is March 15.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum GPA of 3.40 is required in all core PT prerequisite courses (3.5 or above to be considered competitive).
  • Complete required prerequisite courses. A grade of “C” or better is required. Prerequisite course requirements are listed at andrews.edu/shp/pt.
  • Submit an application at the Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service (PTCAS). Go to .
  • Observation Hours:  Students must complete a minimum of 60 observation hours supervised by a licensed physical therapist in at least 3 different settings; at least 10 hours must be in an in-patient acute care or hospital setting and 50 hours in an outpatient setting.
  • Recommendations:  At least one reference must be from a physical therapist and another from a professor who taught the student. It is recommended that the third be from an employer/supervisor, clergy, a second physical therapist or health care professional.
  • Applicants who meet academic requirements are invited for a personal interview.
  • TOEFL: Students whose language of education is not English must submit English proficiency test scores. Score requirements can be found here.
